Found on the Ground comprises two photographic still life series that use found objects from the Goldfields area to explore ideas about order and disorder.

The focus is on the efforts of technology to control and order nature, and nature’s reverse tendency towards disorder through decay and dissolution, the process of entropy. At the same time the artist wanted to explore the beauty of different forms of decay.

The black and white project Order/Disorder uses wood fragments from the forest of Mount Alexander where natural weathering has produced random sculptural forms of beauty and strangeness. They are contrasted with geometric designs from the Greg Neville's father’s teaching aids when he taught trade skills in Technical Schools in the postwar decades.

The colour project, Rust, contains photographs of rusted metal fragments found in or near Maryborough. They are discarded industrial artifacts that show remnants of their machined design. The images contrast the forms of these once useful man-made objects with the natural but terminal processes of rust, fire and weathering.
