Maryborough has a proud textile history. This specialisation lives on as we champion contemporary innovations in textile-based art through this prestigious Award. 

The Golden Textures Contemporary Art Quilt Award showcases contemporary art quilts from around Australia.

The artist whose work is selected as the winner of the Golden Textures Contemporary Art Quilt Award, 2027 will receive $3,000. The winning work will become part of the Gallery's permanent collection.

We invite you to submit an expression of interest to participate in the Golden Textures Contemporary Art Quilt Award 2027.

Our aim is to showcase contemporary art quilts by Australian artists and to foster enjoyment and appreciation of this unique art form.

A $3,000 prize will be awarded to the artist whose quilt is selected as the winner. The winning quilt will then become part of the permanent collection of Central Goldfields Art Gallery.

In addition, we are pleased to offer:
• $500 Highly Commended Award
• $100 People’s Choice Award

Judges: Sue de Vanny, Textile artist and Winner of the 2025 Golden Textures Contemporary Art Quilt Award and Helen Kaptein, Coordinator, Central Goldfields Art Gallery.

ENTRY CRITERIA
Entries must:
• be created by an artist who lives in Australia

• be created from two or more layers of fibre-like material
• be held together with stitches or piercings
• be identifiable as an art quilt
• have been created within the last two years

Three-dimensional art quilts are particularly encouraged.

Terms and Conditions
Entry forms to be submitted to Central Goldfields Art Gallery by 11pm Friday, 2 April 2027 using the online entry form - click on the ENRTY FORM button.

1. Cost of entry is $15 (to support administration costs). Please make the payment through our booking platform (click ENTER HERE button below). Only one quilt per artist can be submitted to the Award. Please retain your ticket as proof of entry submission.

2. Notification of outcome of finalists in the Golden Textures Contemporary Art Quilt Award will be made by Sunday 30 April 2027.

3. Successful finalists are required to deliver their quilt to Central Goldfields Art Gallery or Central Goldfields Shire Council by 4pm on Friday 21 May 2027.
